We were lucky to have Marjorie Brown from McGinn and Company interview Don to learn more about his role as a thought-leader within our industry.  Please join us in congratulating Don and learn more about him below!

Donald Mosby Rembert, Founder of Rembert Pendleton Jackson (RPJ), is celebrating his 50th year as a Financial Advisor. He specializes in global investment asset allocation, retirement and estate planning and small business consulting. Throughout his career, Rembert has championed the importance of financial advisors adhering to the highest professional standards. Early on, he transformed the firm from being commission-based to fee-only. Later, he adopted the Uniform Prudent Investor’s Act as the firm’s guide to fiduciary standards and became an outspoken advocate for advisors affirming their fiduciary status.

Here is some of what Don had to say about his work during the past 50 years:

  1. What do you like best about your job?

I really have a passion for the work that I do. I started out in my career as a small business owner of many restaurants. I found it very difficult to find good, unbiased financial planning advice. So, I started a financial advising company to be that resource for other businesses. Over the past 50 years, we have continued to provide important advice to small business owners, and we have expanded our services to offer a wide range of financial planning and investment management services to individuals, families and organizations. It has been a very fulfilling career.

  1. What is your biggest challenge?

The most difficult thing is helping people come to terms with what they have financially and to be realistic about what they can achieve.  We take a holistic approach to financial planning.

  1. What differentiates RPJ?

I tell people we don’t stand in anyone’s shadow. Our first duty is loyalty, so we deal with people on their terms and with their goals. Our business is built on trust. As fiduciaries, we are legally and ethically responsible for putting our clients’ interests first.

  1. Why did you feel it was important to transition the firm to fee-only?

If you didn’t go fee-only, you were an agent for the company you represented. You couldn’t focus on the client and their welfare. I always wanted to be on the client’s side of the table. Working as a fiduciary has helped us serve our clients better and continue to grow our business.

  1. Tell us more about yourself...

My wife and I have three children and six grandchildren and are about to celebrate our 63rd wedding anniversary. As a proud alumni of McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, my wife and I started the Western Maryland Heritage Society to celebrate the college’s rich history.  Previously, I served as trustee to McDaniel College for many years and am honored to be named alumnus of the year for 2024.  Personally, I love to play guitar and will sing to anyone who will listen!
